Over the past decade educators have increasingly realized the importance of sharing reading with children.  Shared Reading is the crucial middle part of the "To, With, and By" approach to teaching students how to read.  This kit provides schools and teachers with the resources to present professional development sessions in a school.  It contains two videos, a study guide, a CD containing all necessary black-line masters, and notes on how to facilitate a workshop on shared reading. 

Shared Reading is key for teachers to understand and master in their classroom.  Teachers should share reading with students because it promotes in students deeper understanding of how to think and act while reading and writing.  This kit models ways to use shared reading during narrative text and informational text.  Teachers are walked through how to create a five day plan for narrative and informational shared reading lessons.  Shared Reading also helps show change over time with emergent, early and fluent readers.
